Welcome from the Director
Welcome to the website of the Global and Cultural Mental Health, School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne.
GCMH programs are in two broad areas of work. The global mental health program that focuses on mental health system development in low and middle-income countries, and the mental health in multicultural societies program that focuses on mental health in immigrant and refugee communities in Australia.
Our global mental health work has a global reach, with particularly active research, education and mental health system development projects in many countries in Southeast Asia and Africa. Our International mental Health Leadership Program was a pioneering initiative, now in its 12th year. GCMH is a World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre, is currently the Secretariat for the Movement for Global Mental Health and is a technical advisor to the ASEAN Mental Health taskforce and the Mekong Mental Health Partnership.
Our multicultural mental health program is carried out in close collaboration with the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health unit, which is funded by the Victorian Department of Health. GCMH is a consortium partner in the national Mental Health in Multicultural Australia Program, which is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health.
Please take some time to look at our programs and activities, and register to receive our monthly on-line newsletter
for regular updates and news. GCMH is an exciting place to study and to work. If you would like further information please contact us directly by email. If you are in Melbourne come and visit us. We look forward to welcoming you to the Global and Cultural Mental Health.
